NEW DELHI: Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Monday attacked the BJP executive at the Centre for raising fuel prices 22 circumstances since the lockdown, accusing it of extorting folks, and sought an instantaneous rollback of the hikes. She charged the government with profiteering at the expense of the folks, announcing its accountability was once to help them in circumstances of crisis and not make profits out of their hard-earned money.

 

Participating throughout the Congress’ “Speak Up Against Fuel Hike” advertising and marketing marketing campaign across the country, she discussed on the one hand, the COVID-19 pandemic was once wreaking havoc and on the other, the upward thrust in petrol and diesel prices was once making life very difficult for the folks.

The Congress offered the countrywide advertising and marketing marketing campaign on Monday to press the central executive to roll once more fuel prices as that they had been hurting the common folks.

Party leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra moreover joined the selling marketing campaign on social media, and recommended folks to sign up for them in pressing the government to cut back fuel prices.

“I, along with all Congressmen and others together, demand from the Modi government to immediately roll back the increase in prices of petrol and diesel raised during this crisis due to the corona pandemic,” Sonia Gandhi discussed in a video message.

“I also urge them to roll back the rise in excise duty on petrol and diesel since March this year and give this benefit to the countrymen. This will be a big relief in this period of economic crisis,” she discussed.

The Congress chief discussed this in its private was once the living proof of taking the hard-earned incomes of the folks and filling the government’s coffers.

“The executive’s accountability is to fortify the countrymen in difficult circumstances and not take advantage of their plight and profiteer.

“The government has set a new example of extortion from people through this unjustified increase in petrol and diesel prices. This is not only unjust but also insensitive,” Gandhi discussed, noting that it immediately hurts the country’s farmers, the poor, the working elegance, the middle elegance and the small corporations.

She discussed the price of petrol in national capital Delhi and other massive cities has crossed Rs 80 in step with litre.

“After the March 25 lockdown, the Modi government, in the last three months, has raised the prices of petrol and diesel 22 times,” the Congress chief discussed, together with that the price of diesel has gone up by the use of Rs 11 in step with litre and that of petrol by the use of Rs 9.12 in step with litre.

“The Modi government has made provision for collecting lakhs of crores by raising excise duty on petrol and diesel in the last three months. All this is happening at a time when the international crude oil prices are continuously falling,” she discussed.

The Congress president discussed that since 2014, instead of giving support of the falling world crude oil prices to the folks, the Modi executive has raised the excise accountability 12 circumstances, which helped it collect additional source of revenue of almost about Rs 18 lakh crore.

Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala moreover put out a video as part of the selling marketing campaign, alleging that the government has amassed Rs 1.3 lakh crore all through the fuel worth hikes since the lockdown.
