There’s no stopping Pravin Tambe! The 48-year-old Indian cricketer has become the first from the country to feature in the Caribbean Premier League. Tambe was signed by Trinbago Knight Riders in Monday’s CPL draft and will play for the Kieron Pollard-led side.
CPL 2020 will be held behind closed doors between August 18 and September 10 in Trinidad and Tobago after getting the nod from the local government in the wake of the Covid-pandemic.
Pravin Tambe had entered his name in the CPL draft after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) disqualified him from playing in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020.
Tambe became the oldest player to be picked up in an IPL auction when he was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders, who are also part of the group that owns Trinbago Knight Riders.
However, Tambe was pulled up by the BCCI for playing in unrecognised cricket leagues, referring to his stint in the T10 league. He returned to play in the Mumbai T20 League before entering the IPL auction in December last year.
“I am fit and since the BCCI does not allow me to take part in its competitions why shouldn’t I play in other leagues. I am eligible to play outside and got picked by TKR,” Tambe had told The Indian Express last week.
Tambe, who has played only 2 first-class games, shot to fame during his stint with Rajasthan Royals between 2013 and 2015. He went on to play for the now-defunct Gujarat Lions and also was part of Sunrisers Hyderabad squad. Tambe has not played IPL since 2016.
